Advice from a Boston Video Production Company Mentor
Some of the best advice I’ve received from my mentor wasn’t actually advice at all. Let’s paint the picture. 10 years ago, I was just starting my video production career. A new job in radio fell in my lap. I was a bit under qualified, but ready to learn. I was a decent editor but had only taken on small projects and various music videos. I didn’t have much experience with corporate video production & advertising. I faced many challenges. I hit road blocks. When I turned to my boss for help, his advice was ‘Did you Google It?’
The truth was, I didn’t Google the problem. I wanted the easy solution. As more complex editing questions came up, the response stayed the same.
Issues with the editing software? Google it.
Need to learn how to use After Effects? Google it.
Computer keeps crashing? Google it.
Learning how to tackle problems without the easy way out made me a better editor. Learning from tutorials rather than someone else doing it for me made me a better editor. The advice ‘Google it’ has opened more doors than any uplifting advice has. To my mentor, thank you for making me learn the hard way. (And also for the newly formed grey hairs I’ve received from dealing with expert level video editing tasks). For your next video editing project, partner with the experts Avenue One Productions.
